Since joining the firm in 1982, Mr. Shurley has concentrated his efforts in audits and reviews of financial statements, as well as consulting with clients in the areas of accounting systems, cost accounting, job cost systems, inventory management, budgets, projections, financing, employee benefit plans, ESOP transactions and business financial planning. Mr. Shurley's audit background and experience includes working with a range of industries concentrated in the areas of manufacturing, construction, distribution, real estate, retail, franchising, professional services, trade associations, engineering, hospitality/clubs and trade show businesses.
Mr. Shurley regularly provides litigation support services including court testimony, arbitration and mediation. These engagements have primarily been involved with business fraud prevention and detection, lost profits analysis, stock purchase disputes, forensic accounting services, bankruptcies, franchise disputes, contracts, real estate management, debt defaults and insurance liability claims. Mr. Shurley has also represented clients in numerous mergers and acquisition transactions including the performance of due diligence procedures.
Career Highlights
Mr. Shurley began his working career with Ernst & Young in Atlanta, where he was a member of the audit department for five years. While at Ernst & Young, Mr. Shurley was responsible for audit engagements of nonprofits and public and privately-held companies in the manufacturing, construction, distribution, healthcare, textile and soft drink industries.
Affiliations and Education
As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Mr. Shurley is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA), the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA), the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), and the Forensic Accounting Advisory Board of the School of Accountancy at Georgia Southern University. He leads GH&I's construction and real estate industry group and is a member of the firm's forensic and litigation support service team. Mr. Shurley is also a member of the Board of Advisors with the Metro Atlanta Chamber.
Mr. Shurley received his B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Georgia. While attending college, he received several honors and held various elected offices in student organizations.
