Forensic accounting is at the crossroads of numbers and human nature.

Today’s economic climate has created an environment ripe for fraud, and business owners have less time to focus on all aspects of daily operations. They are vulnerable when desperate employees take advantage of the situation at hand.

GH&I's fraud, forensic and litigation support service team regularly serves in the role of fraud prevention partner for closely-held businesses and a litigation resource for law firms and their clients. GH&I’s forensic accountants have experience installing effective fraud deterrence systems and conducting internal investigations. The team knows what patterns to look for in the data of an organization; and they can identify the key behavior patterns and psychological profiles of people who are likely to commit fraud.

The term forensic simply means “suitable for use in a court of law.” When legal action becomes necessary, GH&I’s forensic accountants and fraud investigators work side-by-side with attorneys to map out the most effective litigation strategy. They go in after the fact to reconstruct, re-examine or confirm illegal activities. And they have experience serving as expert witnesses, testifying to their findings in court.

Our accounting and litigation support service addresses all types of complex litigation matters, including:

  • Forensic accounting
  • Fraud investigations
  • Fraud deterrence programs
  • Business valuations
  • Contract compliance issues
  • Construction claims analysis
  • Labor and employment disputes
  • Mergers and acquisitions due diligence
  • Fiduciary breach of liability investigations
  • Construction contract compliance issues
  • Financial litigation support for mediation, arbitration and litigation
  • Labor and employment contract and compensation disputes

Members of GH&I’s fraud, forensic and litigation support service team are Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and auditors, and include Certified Fraud Examiners (CFEs) and a Certified Public Accountant/Certified in Financial Forensics and Certified as an Information System Auditor (CPA/CFA, CISA).

The Fraud, Forensic and Litigation Support Team is led by Dave Peacos, a risk advisory partner, and includes audit partner John Shurley who is a member of the Forensic Accounting Advisory Board of the School of Accountancy at Georgia Southern University.
